EW’s Scope of work included the civil design, mass grading, storm, sewer, electrical, fire, parking lot expansion along with various structural excavations. 

This project presented a unique challenge. Earth Works was contracted to provide the overall civil design, partnering with a local civil engineer and working closely with the owner and construction manager throughout the design phase. Together, the team developed a civil plan that minimized the impact and cost of site development by carefully balancing materials and implementing efficient stormwater management solutions.

In this Heavy Industrial project, we faced several significant challenges that drove our team to work efficiently and accurately to achieve the following objectives:

Originally the pits were scheduled to be constructed first to provide enough material to build up the site, EW was able to find a way to adjust the phasing and generate enough material to get the site to subgrade before the pits were released for construction. Rock removal was a challenge in that the manufacturing equipment that was in operation was highly sensitive to vibrations. A strategy had to be developed and implemented to isolate and mitigate any vibration from attenuating into the existing facility. This was achieved by data gathering and adjusting means and methods for mechanical removal to stay within an acceptable tolerance while not losing any efficiency.
